Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What are the accredited investor income and net-worth thresholds?
You generally qualify with earned income above $200,000 individually (or $300,000 with a spouse) in each of the last two years, with the expectation of the same this year β€” or a net worth over $1 million, excluding the value of your primary residence.
Can I qualify without meeting the income or net-worth test?
Yes. The SEC also recognizes individuals holding certain professional certifications (such as the Series 7, 65, or 82 licenses in good standing) as accredited, regardless of income or net worth.
Why does accredited status matter?
Many tax-advantaged private strategies β€” including DSTs, Opportunity Zone funds, and IDC programs β€” are legally limited to accredited investors. Confirming your status is typically the first step before exploring them. These investments are speculative and involve risk of loss.
